Trivia

There are several theories on when the first ice cream appeared.

One credits the first frozen dessert to Emperor Nero of Rome. It was a mixture of snow (which he sent his slaves into the mountains to retrieve) and nectar, fruit pulp and honey.

Another is that ice cream was introduced to Europe by Marco Polo in the 13th century from the Far East where water ices were said to have been eaten for thousands of years.

Yet another tells of a sumptuous state banquet hosted by Charles I of England (1600-1649) for many of his friends and family. The meal consisted of many delicacies of the day, but the "coup de grace" was a dessert presented  by the French chef. It was cold and resembled fresh- fallen snow but was much creamier and sweeter than any other after- dinner dessert.
